A series of trials have been carried out by the American Forestry Commission to evaluate the effectiveness of protecting camps and feed stores from marauding bears by Electric Fencing. These are constructed using simple electric fencing techniques commonly applied to many forms of wild life around the world.

The effectiveness has been very good. This backs up observations from Russia where EF was used to prevent bears disturbing the smooth running of oil drill sites. After three years of their erection, only one bear has been able to infiltrate the fences.
